Summary

On 13th August 2025, the Department of Physics of KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology (KPRIET) organized an insightful session at Pallavi Hall. The resource person, Dr. T. Daniel Thangadurai, Professor, CFRD delivered a thought-provoking talk on “Pitch, Propose and Prosper – How to Write an Effective Project Proposal.”

The primary objective of the session was to guide and empower the faculty members of KPRIET in developing strong research proposals that can secure funding from various national and international agencies. Dr. Thangadurai, with his rich academic and research expertise, explained that project proposals are not just funding applications but well-crafted documents that reflect vision, innovation, and societal impact.

In his address, he elaborated on the essential components of a successful project proposal, including:

  • Problem Identification and Relevance: Choosing a socially, industrially, and scientifically significant research problem.

  • Objectives and Methodology: Defining specific, measurable objectives and designing a robust methodology.

  • Significance and Impact: Justifying the societal, academic, and industrial contributions of the proposed work.

  • Budget and Timeline Preparation: Drafting realistic budgets and time-bound research schedules.

  • Adherence to Guidelines: Following the norms and requirements of funding bodies meticulously.

The session was highly interactive, with Dr. Thangadurai providing real-life examples, case studies, and practical insights on effective proposal writing. He also emphasized the role of interdisciplinary collaborations in enhancing the quality and acceptance of proposals, noting that funding agencies increasingly value cross-disciplinary research addressing global challenges.

A key takeaway was the emphasis on presentation and clarity. Dr. Thangadurai highlighted the importance of well-structured documents, compelling impact statements, and the effective use of visuals like flowcharts and graphs to strengthen proposals.

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A discussion, where KPRIET faculty members clarified doubts regarding proposal submission, evaluation criteria, and strategies to increase success rates. The participants found the session immensely useful and expressed that the insights gained would enable them to confidently frame proposals that align with funding expectations.

The talk by Dr. T. Daniel Thangadurai was truly motivating and enriching, inspiring the faculty of KPRIET to pitch their ideas effectively, propose with clarity, and prosper in their research journey.
