Summary

The Office of the Controller of Examinations organized a one-day workshop titled “Competency Based Curriculum Development and Evaluation” on 13 September 2025. The workshop aimed to equip newly joined faculty members across departments with an understanding of curriculum development based on defined competencies, and to highlight best practices for curriculum evaluation in higher education.

Ms. R.Revathi, AP II & ACoE, has welcomed the gathering and Dr. S. Muttan, Professor of Eminence, delivered an insightful and structured presentation. He covered the following key topics:

  • The significance of competency mapping in curriculum development.

  • Aligning learning outcomes with teaching strategies and assessment tools.

  • Case studies on curriculum development from engineering and technology sectors.

  • Methods for continuous curriculum improvement and evaluation using feedback loops.

  • Challenges and solutions in implementing competency-based education in higher learning institutions.

The session was interactive, and participants were encouraged to ask questions and share their departmental experiences.

The workshop was attended by faculty members from various departments, including mechanical, mechatronics, electronics, civil, biomedical and computer science engineering. Over 40 participants actively took part in the event and group activities, contributing to a collaborative learning environment. The participants provided positive feedback, appreciating the clarity and depth of the training. Many expressed interest in further workshops focusing on curriculum mapping, outcome-based education, and assessment tools. Dr.B.Nagarajan, Prof & Ad.CoE has delivered the vote of thanks.
