Dr. M. Ramasamy, Secretary and Principal, KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, is a dynamic leader with a strategic vision and values. His extensive academic and research background for over 34 years provides the institution to innovate engineering education with new trends.
He completed his postgraduate and doctoral studies in Chemical Engineering at Indian Institutes of Technology, Kharagpur and Madras, respectively, and acquired a solid foundation in research. In his career, he has served as a faculty in various reputed institutions and universities in India and Malaysia. He taught students at world's one of the top universities, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia for 16 years.
As a researcher, Dr Ramasamy worked on Industrial IoT, Naphtha Reforming, Modelling and Simulation of Process Systems, Optimal PID Controller Design, Control Relevant System Identification, Energy Management in Petrochemical Industries, and Crude Oil Fouling. With a massive total grant value of about USD 2.3 million, he successfully completed 23 R&D, Contract Research and Consultancy projects as Principal Investigator and Project Leader. He has supervised 9 PhD and 11 postgraduate researchers.
Dr. Ramasamy has published over 100 research articles in refereed International Journals and reputed international conferences. One of his contributions on optimal PID controller design has been included in the Handbook of PI and PID Controller Tuning Rules (Imperial College Press, 2009) by Aidan O'Dwyer. He has co-authored a book on 'Profit Optimisation: An Integrated Approach for Scheduling and Real-time Optimization in a Refrigerated Gas Plant' and edited a book on 'Processing of Heavy Crude Oils: Opportunities and Challenges'. As a result of his continuous research, Dr Ramasamy has filed a PETRONAS Trade Secret, and granted a patent in Malaysia. A patent has been filed in Malaysia, approved by Patent Cooperation Treaty (PTC), Geneva and filed the same in several countries including USA.
In Dec. 2021, he joined KPRIET as Strategic Adviser and Visiting Professor in Chemical Engineering with immense experience in teaching, research, and administration. With his effective strategies, he contributed to the complete planning and support for the academic, research and development, and growth of the Institution.
For his professional excellence, Dr Ramasamy is recognized in many places. Remarkably, he earned the most prestigious Chartered Engineer from Engineering Council, UK and Charted Member from IChemE, UK. He is a senior member of one of the premier educational forums for Chemical Engineers interested in innovation and professional growth, American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), and a member in American Chemical Society (ACS).
