Students were able to design single layer and multilayer PCB using Altium software.
PCB design using Altium Industrial one-credit course was organized by the ECE department in PCB Laboratory from 04.12.2023 to 05.12.2023. The session was handled by Mr. K. Kumaresan from Robert Bosch. The session was divided into two parts, namely design and reverse engineering. The students were given awareness about various ECAD softwares like Kicad, Eagle, Altium, etc. The advantages of using each ECAD tool are discussed in detail. Further Altium software is used for designing the circuit. Students were exposed to the concepts of schematic diagram, schematic library, footprint generation, PCB library, PCB layout, routing, and Gerber generation. Students were provided with different circuits such as timer circuits, LED blinking, etc. and they were taught to design using both the through hole and SMD components. Students were also exposed to the Octopart website, in which they can find the datasheet for various components. They were also exposed to multilayer PCB. In the second part, students were introduced to reverse engineering concepts by following the design rules. Moreover, students were taken to the PCB lab and were exposed to different equipment used for manufacturing.
