The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, in association with the student's association SPARTRANZ, organizes a three-day hands-on training on “System Design using FPGA” between 08.05.2025 and 09.05.2025 at the DSN laboratory. Ms.S. Prabhu will handle the session. On day 1, 08.05.2025, we discussed the following topics under Digital Electronics and VLSI domain.
· Digital Electronics: Combinational and Sequential Logic
· Importance of logic gates in digital circuit design
· Implementation of combinational and sequential logic on Artix-7 FPGA board.
The students' performance was assessed with simple logic design implementation on Artix-7 FPGA. The resource person discussed the architecture of Artix-7 FPGA and its resource utilization configuration on day two, 09.05.2025. students implemented different combinational and sequential circuits full adder, counter, seven segment display, universal shift register and multiplexer. The students asked questions and engaged in lively discussion with the resource person and clarified their doubts.
At the end of the session, students were able to:
1. Understand combinational, sequential logic circuits, and finite state machines.
2. Learn the Implementation procedure for logic circuit on Artix-7 FPGA board
3. Role of FPGA in VLSI design
4. Write VerilogHDL code for combinational and sequential logic circuits.
5. Aware about different roles of VLSI engineers in industry
